‘NCIS’ season 9 spoilers: Robert Wagner’s return as Tony’s father |
NCIS has quite a lot planned for its ninth season, which will include its 200th episode, and part of that includes some returns. Robert Wagner will be back as Tony’s father, and now there are some more details, such as when that will happen, out about it.
More Anthony DiNozzo Sr.
According to TVGuide, Wagner is returning as Anthony DiNozzo Sr. in the Christmas episode, and Michael Weatherly said, “I’m sure there will be all the style, the panache, and glamour that Mr. Wagner always brings with him … but I have a feeling that there’s a good bit of edge that we’ll have in this one.” Wagner has been in two NCISepisodes, season 7′s “Flesh and Blood,” which introduced his DiNozzo Sr. to everyone, and season 8′s “Broken Arrow,” which had Gibbs and his team using him in a bit of undercover work. What will bring him back this time, especially for the Christmas episode? Will more be revealed about Tony’s past? Tony’s obviously going to be changed after what happens in the season premiere; will Senior know about it? Tony didn’t have the best childhood, which has been seen over the years via comments from Tony and a couple of brief conversations with Senior, so what was Christmas like for the DiNozzos? Will father and son spend the holiday together, or will Senior be off on another flight before that can happen?
Are you looking forward to seeing more of Tony’s father on NCIS in season 9?

First Look: NCIS’ Michael Weatherly Gets His Shot |
With the March 1 episode “One Last Score,” Michael Weatherly becomes the first NCIS cast member to direct the CBS hit. “Believe me, I knocked on the door a long time,” he tells TV Guide Magazine. “Mark Harmon has always said nobody here wants anybody else’s job — and here I am, trying to do somebody else’s job.”
As a first-time director, Weatherly says his biggest challenge came as an actor. “By the end of this episode, I felt DiNozzo had significantly altered,” he says. “He awakens from a four-year sleep. I was glad to see him back! In this episode and the next, he’s in a Sean Connery place — pretty deadly serious with a twinkle in his eye.”
That glint may be provided by Brothers & Sisters vet Sarah Jane Morris, who debuts as a new NCIS agent — and a potential love interest for Tony. Can the buffoon really transform into Bond? “As the director, I had certain powers,” he boasts, “and I hope the audience is pleased.” Well played, Mr. Weatherly.

Keck’s Exclusives: NCIS Goes Old School |
NCIS‘ Michael Weatherly has been growing his hair to the “pompadour” look he sported back in 2003 for a March episode that explores the origins of his Agent DiNozzo. Among the reveals: the first Gibbs-DiNozzo head slap.
Michael also says the season’s final episodes introduce doppelgängers that mirror our faves. “There will be a massive disturbance in the squad, which will begin to crack,” he says.

NCIS’ Michael Weatherly on the New “Threat” to Ziva |
Michael Weatherly is directing his first episode of NCIS, which will introduce a recurring female agent named Erica Jane Barrett (to be played by Brothers & Sisters vet Sarah Jane Morris). In Erica’s introductory episode on March 1, it’s revealed that she accepted a job previously offered to DiNozzo by Director Shepard to lead an NCIS team in Europe.
Michael, who was involved with Sarah Jane’s casting, describes the character as “a team leader who will be a very beautiful, strong, hard-charging, highly dramatic addition to the cast.” He goes on to say, “She also represents a romantic threat to someone.”
Since a show rep tells me this new character will share sparks with Tony, we can safely say Ziva (Cote de Pablo) had best watch out!

NCIS Spoilers – What to Expect from Tony Origin Episode |
A CBS drama is going somewhere it has yet to explore this season. So far fans have seen how Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon), Timothy McGee (Sean Murray), Ziva David (Cote de Pablo), and even Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll) joined NCIS–but they have yet to see the same for one Anthony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly). But luckily for fans, that’s changing in an upcoming episode.
Tony origin episode
It was revealed earlier this month that an episode this season would be going into Tony’s past, and specifically, how he joined Gibbs’ team. If that wasn’t exciting enough, Debra Birnbaum, the editor-in-chief of TV Guide Magazine, tweeted earlier:
“Just chatted with #NCIS star Michael Weatherly about the Tony origins episode coming in May. We’ll see the first head slap! #bafta”
Unfortunately this means that fans are going to have to wait until close to the end of the season for this episode, but they will get to see how the head slap began! And that’s key to the Gibbs-Tony relationship on this series. It’s impossible not to love (and expect) when Tony is due to receive a head slap from Gibbs, and the show has been lacking in them lately.
It will also be interesting to see the first meetings between Tony and Abby and Tony and Ducky. There were allusions to the first back in season 1 when Kate (Sasha Alexander) first joined the team, but it will be so much better to see it in a flashback.
What are you most looking forward to in the NCIS episode that delves into Tony’s past?
